Walker teacher wins prestigious “Local Stalwart” award

IEA Region 57 honor goes to Vicki Marek

Walker Elementary School 5th grade teacher Vicki Marek received the prestigious Illinois Education AssociationRegion 57 Local Stalwart Award for her work with the Hinsdale Clarendon Hills Teacher Association (HCHTA).

Marek, who is retiring at the end of the current school year, has been teaching 5thgrade at the Hinsdale school for 10 years. Prior to that she taught 2ndgrade and also was an Instructional Assistant in the Media Resource Center (MRC).

“She is dedicated to making a positive impact on her students and they know their teacher will go the distance to help them learn and understand,” said longtime friend and Walker 2ndgrade teacher Louise Perkowski who spoke at the awards ceremony. “As a staff we can always count on Vicki to contribute in her signature style: direct, knowledgeable and passionate.”

Marek has served as an HCHTA Building Representative as well as a member of on HCHTA Compensation Review Committee and the HCHTA Negotiations Committee. When she’s not attending School Board meetings on behalf of the HCHTA, she often attends as an interested community member.

“All stakeholders in District 181 have benefited from Vicki’s commitment to her career and HCHTA,” Perkowski said.
