Wallet Theft, Warrants: Hinsdale Cops

A woman's wallet was stolen while she was shopping at a local store, police said.

HINSDALE, IL — In the last few days, Hinsdale police handled cases involving a wallet theft, warrants, damage to a window, fraud, a hit-and-run crash and a DUI. Here is information from the latest Hinsdale police reports:

Wallet theft

  • A customer at Whole Foods Market, 500 E. Ogden Ave., reported her wallet, including a phone, driver's license and credit cards, was stolen at 1 p.m. Saturday while she was shopping. She then found her wallet and phone on the ramp from Ogden Avenue to Interstate 294. She said her credit cards were used to make $444 in fraudulent purchases at a store in Melrose Park. The case is pending.

  • Nicholas C. Svoboda, 28, of Hinsdale, was arrested about 9 p.m. Saturday at 55th Street and Route 83 on a Will County warrant. He was a passenger in a car that was stopped for an equipment violation. He was released on bond.
  • Ryan M. Criswell, 31, of Bolingbrook, was arrested about 1 a.m. Wednesday at the Hinsdale Oasis on Interstate 294 on a DuPage County warrant. He was unable to post bond, so he was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Damage

  • The rear window of a car was shattered while it was parked on the street in the 100 block of North Vine Street. Nothing was reported stolen. It happened between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Feb. 15.

Fraud

  • A resident in the 5500 block of South County Line Road told police that a person claiming to be from PayPal instructed him to wire transfer money for a subscription renewal. The incident was Feb. 16.
  • A resident in the 500 block of South Garfield Avenue told police Friday that someone hacked her friend's email account and requested a gift card. The friend bought $400 in gift cards and sent information to the suspect.

Hit-and-run crash

  • Staff at RML Specialty Hospital, 5601 S. County Line Road, told police Wednesday about a damaged light pole and fence. A white semi-truck was seen on surveillance video during the timeframe of the damage. The case is pending.

DUI

  • Marco A. Ruiz, 31, of Willowbrook, was arrested about 2:30 a.m. Sunday at Ogden Avenue and Route 83 on charges of DUI, improper lane use and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. He submitted to testing that indicated he was over the legal limit. He was released and given a date to appear in court.

Driving violations

  • Justin M. Bruegger, 37, of La Grange Park, was cited about 3:30 p.m. Feb. 15 in the 400 block of West Ogden Avenue on charges of driving with a suspended license, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
  • Josh D. Tate, 22, of Cicero, was cited shortly before midnight Friday at 55th Street and Garfield Avenue on charges of driving with a suspended license, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license for no insurance and operating an uninsured vehicle. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
