Water Main Installation Leads to Downtown Hinsdale Street Closures

Portions of Lincoln Street in downtown Hinsdale closed for the next couple of weeks due to water main work, parking will be limited.

The village of Hinsdale has announced that due to installation of a new water main, sections of Lincoln Street in the downtown area are closed in order to complete the work, and are expected to remain closed until mid-May.

The work will also lead to parking areas being closed, and the village is asking motorists to avoid the area, and follow all detour signs, according to a press release issued by the village.

Lincoln Street between Hinsdale Avenue and Chestnut Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic during this time period. The sidewalks will remain open during this phase of the construction. Access to the Metra parking lot will not be affected; however, some of the metered parking on Lincoln Street will be unavailable.

Intersections along Lincoln will be closed periodically as work progresses; detour signage will be posted as closures occur, and area residents and businesses will be provided with advance notice of closures affecting their specific street. To avoid conflicts with construction operations, affected residents are requested to have vehicles out of their driveways prior to 7 a.m.

Street parking will be prohibited on Lincoln Street from Chestnut to Maple for the remainder of the project. Daily parking is available on side streets. Lincoln Street and the railroad crossing is scheduled to re-open on Thursday. May 14.

As construction of the new water main progresses north and south of the crossing, all street parking will be prohibited between the overall project limits of First Street to North Street. Re-establishing parking within the business district will be a priority.

The scope of the remainder of the project will include water main installation, water service transfers, pavement patching, milling, and resurfacing. The entire project is expected to be completed by late June.
