Westmont House Fire Linked To Fireworks: Village

Three youths set off fireworks and ran away, authorities said.

WESTMONT, IL – A house fire was reported Monday in Westmont after youths set off fireworks nearby, authorities said.

Westmont firefighters responded to the house at 139 W. Naperville Road within three minutes of receiving a call about 11:30 a.m., according to a news release.

A witness alerted police officers to three youths who set off fireworks and ran away, authorities said. Within minutes, police found the trio and charged them with felony criminal damage exceeding $100,000. They were released to their parents.

One person was in the house at the time, but escaped without injuries, officials said. The damage was estimated at more than $150,000.

The house was declared unlivable, and the owner was displaced, authorities said.
