What Would New Downtown Hinsdale Development Look Like?
The Village of Hinsdale Plan Commission last week approved the site plan and exterior appearance for Garfield Crossing, which would fill the vacant space on 1st Street west of Garfield.
The Village of Hinsdale Plan Commission on April 10 gave its support to the site plan and exterior appearance of Garfield Crossing, the proposed two-story development that would fill the currently vacant space on the southwest corner of 1st and Garfield streets, and recommended the zoning and public safety (ZPS) committee does the same.
Patch obtained a couple of renderings of the proposed development from David Kennedy of PPK Architects, the firm that designed the mixed-use development that would house retail spaces on its first floor and a combination of retail and office spaces on its second floor. They can be seen above.
Garfield Crossing would stretch from the corner of 1st and Garfield east to the existing set of buildings that house the Hinsdale Chamber of Commerce, Nabuki and Il Poggiolo.

Plan commission members present last week commended the project and voted unanimously to pass the plan and appearance on to village trustees that sit on the ZPS committee.
The only part of the proposed exterior appearance left out of the plan commission's recommendation was signage above second-story windows, which is included in the above renderings.

Property owner Clay Naccarato said if the village's approval process goes smoothly, he'll aim to begin the eight- to 12-month construction project when school is let out for the summer. (Hinsdale Middle School is directly behind the development.)
