Why Hinsdale Cops Stopped Chase

A suspect stole $1,000 in items from a Hinsdale store, police said.

HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale officers last week chased a person who stole $1,000 in merchandise from Walgreens, 15 Grant Square, police said.

About 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers saw the suspect driving away in a white Chevrolet van.

Police tried to box in the suspect's car at Washington Street and Chicago Avenue, police said. The suspect, instead, struck a squad car and escaped, police said.

Officers said they did not pursue the suspect because a child was reported to be in the van.

Police said the case is pending.
