You're Being Tracked In Clarendon Hills

The village bought license plate readers, but records don't indicate where the village installed them.

CLARENDON HILLS, IL – Clarendon Hills has recently installed license plate reader cameras around town.

Such cameras, which are in many suburbs, help police catch suspects.

Patch obtained information about the cameras through a public records request.

Among other things, Patch asked for a record showing where the cameras are. Such a document was not produced. The village said it could legally withhold documents disclosing "unique or specialized investigative techniques."

In April 2021, the Village Board approved spending about $63,000 on six license plate reader cameras with California-based Vigilant Solutions.
