$100K In Damages After Townhome Break-In: Sheriff

Several cabinets and drawers were broken, and drains overflowed which caused extensive water damage throughout the home.

HOMER GLEN, IL — Someone broke into a recently finished townhome on May 16 in Homer Glen and caused over $100,000 in damages, according to police reports from the Will County Sheriff's Office. The townhome, located in the 13000 block of South Belmont Drive, had several items throughout the home broken and also has extensive water damage.

According to police reports, the offender broke the staircase handrails, banister railing, several kitchen cabinets and drawers, bathroom drawers and cabinets and an exterior window. The washer and dryer power cords were also cut.

The offender also turned on all the bathroom and kitchen sink faucets and closed the drains, which caused the sinks to overflow. Reports state water was seen dripping through the light fixtures and ceilings throughout the kitchen, as well as into the basement and garage. There was also extensive water damage to the drywall and paint.

Will County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Kathy Hoffmeyer said there was no video surveillance at the residence and the case remains under investigation. If anyone has any information regarding the incident, contact the Investigations Unit at 815-727-8574.
