The 143rd Street Expansion is won for the People

As Homer Township Supervisor and One of 12 County Board members who listened to the Will of the people I want to first of all thank God for answering so many prayers. Next I want to thank all the people who sent emails, and came in person to speak. I would also like to thank the Homer Township Board Clerk Bozen, Road Commissioner Porfilio, Accessor Maurella, Colector Gondek, Trustees Shake, Bonomo, Clausen, and Rivera for all their efforts in pushing this to victory since November. This could not have happened without the support of the Village of Homer Glen Mayor Troike, Trustee Steilen, and Trustee Fialko. Speaking at the meetings. Thank you to District 92 for speaking out against the expansion as well as District 33C. A special thanks to Destinee Ortiz, Sherry Williams, and Janet Diaz for holding firm for the desire of the people despite excessive pressure from numerous fronts.

If any of this these people gave up we would not have stopped the expansion. I know our Republican Caucus Deane-Schlottman, Ogalla, Pretzel, Butler, Balich, Richmond, Parker, Logan, Mitchell, Berkowicz , held together except for Mark Revis, but thanks to Williams, Diaz, and Ortiz on the Democrat side this huge win for the people was made possible. RESOLUTION OF THE COUNTY BOARD
WILL COUNTY, ILLINOIS

Directing the Will County Division of Transportation to Cease Moving Forward with the 143Rd Street Expansion Road Project as Currently Planned

WHEREAS, in 1991 the County completed a Phase I study of the 143rd Street corridor; and

WHEREAS, the study established projected traffic volumes for 2010 with the recommendation that the entire corridor have two through lanes in each direction; and

WHEREAS, the Preliminary Engineering (Phase I) for this segment began in 2009 and IDOT and FHWA certified all studies, public involvement, findings, and the proposed plan met all WHEREAS, the Preliminary Engineering (Phase I) for this segment began in 2009 and IDOT and FHWA certified all studies, public involvement, findings, and the proposed plan met all requirement in 2019; and WHEREAS, the Will County Division of Transportation is in the final segment of the widening and reconstruction of 143rd Street Corridor, being the segment between State Street/ Lemont Road and Bell Road; and

WHEREAS, since the initial vote by the County Board on the 143rd Street corridor the State of Illinois has completed and fully improved 159th Street; and

WHEREAS, members of community of Homer Glen, and residents living on the final segment of the project have voiced opposition to the project; and

WHEREAS, the Public Works & Transportation Committee has reviewed the project and recommends stopping plans to move forward with the expansion of 143rd Street as currently planned,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Will County Board finds that the full expansion of 143rd Street as currently planned is no longer necessary and instructs the Will County Division of Transportation to cease moving forward with the five (5) lane expansion,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Will County Board finds that the full expansion of 143rd Street between State Street/ Lemont Road and Bell Road is no longer necessary,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the Will County Board directs the Will County Division of Transportation to develop plans for a three (3) lane expansion with the third (3rd) lane being a turning lane,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Preamble of this Resolution is hereby adopted as if fully set forth herein. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect upon its passage and approval as provided by law.
