Police Sergeant, Wife Dead In Homer Glen Murder-Suicide: Police

The Glendale Heights department confirmed the identities of the two people as Michael and Jackie Huff.

HOMER GLEN, IL — A Glendale Heights police sergeant and his wife are dead after a murder-suicide in Homer Glen on Sunday, the Glendale Heights Police Department confirmed.

The department identified the sergeant as Michael Huff, and his wife, Jackie Huff. Jackie was a current employee of the Village of Homer Glen. The department said it is working closely with the Will County Sheriff's Office on the incident.

At 5:46 p.m. Sunday, deputies with the sheriff's office responded to the 13600 block of Shannon Drive in Homer Glen for a report of shots fired, the sheriff's office said. The 911 caller told police they heard the homeowners arguing, followed by the sound of gunshots from inside the home.

When officers arrived, they found a man and a woman on the kitchen floor, covered in blood, the sheriff's office said. Both had been shot and showed no signs of life.

Members of the Northwest Homer Fire Protection District responded to the scene and confirmed that both individuals were dead, the sheriff's office said.

A small caliber handgun was found in close proximity to both individuals, according to police. Detectives and crime scene investigators with the Will County Sheriff’s Office were summoned to the home to begin the death investigation.

According to police, the initial investigation was able to determine that this isolated incident was the result of a murder and suicide. There is no danger to the public.

The Glendale Heights department said Michael took his own life, as well as Jackie's life. Michael had served in Glendale Heights for 20 years, and Jackie was a former Village employee in Glendale Heights. According to the Village of Homer Glen website, Jackie worked as the village's Community Events Coordinator.

"This loss has left a deep void within the Village of Glendale Heights. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Michael and Jackie, and we extend our sincerest condolences during this incredibly difficult time," the department said on its Facebook.

"With extreme sadness, the Village of Homer Glen shares the loss of employee and friend, Jacquelyn Huff, in an isolated incident on Sunday," the Village said on its Facebook, adding that its offices were closed on Monday out of respect for Jacquelyn.
