20-Year-Old Killed In Car Crash In Lockport: Coroner

Miranda Rivera, of Lockport, was pronounced dead at 4:57 a.m. Thursday at the Silver Cross emergency room, the coroner's office said.

LOCKPORT, IL — A 20-year-old woman died Thursday after a car crash at Bruce Road and State Street in Lockport, according to the Will County Coroner's Office. Miranda Rivera, of Lockport, was pronounced dead at 4:57 a.m. Thursday at the Silver Cross Hospital emergency room, the coroner's office said.

Illinois State Police said Rivera was driving westbound on Bruce Road approaching IL-171, and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection. The vehicle continued traveling west across all lanes of IL-171, and entered an embankment to the west of the roadway, struck several trees and a pole, and became fully engulfed in flames, police said.

Rivera was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and died from those injuries at the hospital, police said.

A preliminary autopsy on Thursday showed Rivera sustained multiple injuries due to a motor vehicle collision, according to the coroner's office. The final cause and manner of death will be determined at a later date pending police, autopsy and toxicological reports.
