9/7/2023 Amendment to the Open Space Zoning to allow for farming

Change zoning with an amendment to the Open Space District to allow Agriculture as a permitted use on the Welter Property if rezined to OS

Case No. HG-2320-A, Village of Homer Glen Code Text Amendment (Public Hearing): Consideration of a request for text amendments to Chapter 220

During the August 7, 2023 special Township meeting, Homer Township made a crucial decision. The Township proposed changing Welter Property's zoning from E1 Estate Housing to OS Open Space.

Although Open Space Zoning excludes farming, the Township is requesting farming as a permitted right.

If the Village denies farming within Open Space Zoning, then the Township will keep it E1 (Estate Housing).

The property has held E1 (Estate Housing) zoning since 2001, with a permitted non-conforming right allowing farming.

The Township is eager to have the property rezoned as Open Space but can only do so if the Village allows the Township farming as a permitted right.
