Two Homer Glen, Lockport Students Awarded College-Sponsored Merit Scholarships

The awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Two students from the Homer Glen and Lockport area were among over 2,500 winners of a College-Sponsored National Merit Scholarship, which was announced Wednesday by the corporation.

Julianne Carway, a student at Lockport Township High School, was awarded the National Merit University of Alabama Scholarship. Carway has a probable career field of law.

Gabriella Kedzierski, a student at LTHS, was awarded the National Merit University of Alabama Scholarship. Kedzierski has a probable career field of medicine.

Officials from each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among National Merit Scholarship program finalists, according to a news release. The awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study.

Another group of scholars will be announced in July.

By the end of this year's competition, about 6,700 students will have earned scholarships worth about $24 million, according to National Merit.
