Hot And Humid Weather For Lockport: Early Trash Pick-Up This Week

HOMER GLEN-LOCKPORT, IL — A hot and humid weather pattern will settle in this week for Homer Glen and Lockport, and high temperatures in the 90s are expected.

While there aren't any heat advisories or warnings in effect currently, there are several locations in Will County that operate as cooling centers if residents are in need.

In Homer Glen and Lockport, cooling centers can be found at:

• Homer Glen Village Hall, 14240 W. 151st St. During business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Lockport City Hall, 222 E. Ninth St. Open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Lockport Police Department, 1212 Farrell Road. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Call PD to be opened after 4:30 p.m.
• Lockport Township, 1463 S. Farrell Road. Open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

As a reminder, it's always best to call ahead and check with the location that it's operating as a cooling center.

The City of Lockport also sent a notification to residents that trash collection will start earlier at 5 a.m. this week due to the heat.

"Please place your trash and recycling carts by the curb prior to this start time," the City said.

The National Weather Service urged residents to know the symptoms of heat exhaustion: dizziness, thirst, heavy sweating, nausea, weakness.

Residents should move to a cooler area if they experience symptoms, loosen clothing, sip cool water and seek medical help if symptoms don't improve.

Heat exhaustion can lead to heat stroke, which can cause death or permanent injury if not treated.

Symptoms of more severe heat stroke include confusion, dizziness and loss of consciousness. If anyone experiences those symptoms, residents should act fast by calling 911, moving them to a cooler area, loosening clothing and applying ice or giving sips of water.
