Award Winning Homer Glen Woodcrafter Gene Benes Brings Work to 13th Annual Lakeview East Festival of the Arts
Known for his signature wood-crafted pens, master woodcrafter Gene Benes returns to the Lakeview East Festival of the Arts.
Homer Glen local artist Gene Benes returns as a juried artist to the 13th Annual Lakeview East Festival of the Arts. The official hours for the Lakeview East Festival of the Arts, located on Broadway Ave. from Belmont Ave. north to Hawthorne St. in Chicago, are Saturday, Sept. 9 from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. with additional hours for live music, food and drink tents until 10 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 10 from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Benes is an award winning woodworker who is most notably known for his masterful, hand turned pens made from wood and acrylic utilizing solid material, segmenting and inlay techniques. The pens are hand finished and select works include materials such as feathers, snake skin, shell, paper and thread. Having learned to craft wood at a young age in his father's workshop, Benes shapes wood into a variety of different works of art.

The 2017 Lakeview East Festival of the Arts showcases more than 150-juried artists featuring world-class original paintings, sculpture, photography, furniture, jewelry and more. In addition to the diverse artists’ booths, the Festival also includes live music on multiple stages, an interactive children’s area, wine, beer and food booths, an interactive garden oasis and much more.
Lakeview East Festival of the Arts asks for a $5 donation upon entrance.
