Building Uninhabitable After Fire On Saturday: Fire District

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Lockport and MABAS Division 19 Fire Investigators.

LOCKPORT, IL — A multi-family home in unincorporated Lockport Township is uninhabitable after a fire on Saturday, the Lockport Township Fire Protection District said. The fire was reported at 1:24 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Hughes Avenue.

The district said crews arrived to find a large, two-story, multi-family dwelling with a fire on the first floor. The residents of the unit where the fire started were the only ones home at the time of the fire, and were able to self-evacuate before firefighters arrived, the district said.

Crews were able to bring the fire under control quickly, but spent a few hours on scene checking for fire extension in the four separate living units, the district said. The building sustained extensive smoke damage, leaving it completely uninhabitable.

The residents who were home at the time of the fire were evaluated by EMS personnel for smoke inhalation, but declined transport to the hospital, the district said. The Red Cross was called in to assist two of the other building’s occupants.

The fire was upgraded to a full still which brought in additional resources and manpower from East Joliet, Frankfort, Homer and New Lenox to assist at the scene while Bolingbrook, Homer, Mokena, Plainfield and Romeoville provided coverage in the Lockport stations, the district said.
