Are you interested in learning more about our American democracy in a "just-the-facts" way? Perhaps you're looking for a place to discuss the ins-and-outs of governance in a moderated and non-partisan forum? Look no further than our new six-part series!

Part education and part discussion group, this community-building program will focus on a particular subject related to the roles of our government and our community in a democracy. Karen Johnson (a current Lockport Township Trustee) will be hosting this program and partnering with representatives from Lewis University's Gros Institute to help facilitate the discussion. These discussions will allow attendees to explore their individual and collective experiences and consider how they might empower themselves and others to change the world.

Each month we will draw from the interests of the people present to set the following month’s educational/discussion subject, within the context of a particular aspect of our government, governance, election processes (nonpartisan, no particular candidate discussions), or building community. The topic for part one of this six part program is America’s Checks and Balances: an overview of the roles of the three branches of government, as well as the roles of the media and we, the people, in our democracy.
