Stacy Peterson’s Sister: My Tip Prompted Canal Search
During a news conference Tuesday, Cales said she used a sonar device on an underwater robotic in May in the canal and found skeletal remains

LOCKPORT, IL — Part of the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal in Lockport was searched Tuesday after a tip from Cassandra Cales, the sister of missing Bolingbrook woman Stacy Peterson, Cales told reporters during a press conference.
Peterson was reported missing in 2007, and was the fourth wife of Drew Peterson. Drew was convicted in 2012 for the murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio. In 2016, he was also convicted in connection with a murder-for-hire plot targeting the Will County State's Attorney.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Cales said she used a sonar device on an underwater robotic in May in the canal and found skeletal remains.

"We gave it to the state police, law enforcement, state's attorney; they even came on site to see it," Cales said.
Cales said she was told something would happen, and five months later, authorities searched the area.

"They come out five months later, and don't recover anything," she said, adding that she was "very frustrated."
Cales said authorities were not able to retrieve anything on Tuesday, and that the "area is clear to their standards," adding that she will be back.
The Lockport Township Fire Protection District told Patch it assisted police with its boats for an investigation, but did not provide further information.
Illinois State Police would not confirm any details of the search, saying only, "The Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 3 is working an active and ongoing criminal investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation is assisting. To protect the integrity of the case, no further information is available at this time."
