The Chevron property is the former site of the Texaco oil refinery, which closed in 1981, according to the city. Since then, the property has been annexed into Lockport, and a remediation plan and future land use plan was developed in the 2000s.
The City of Lockport bought the property from Chevron for $2 million earlier this year. According to the city, it is now looking to create a vision for the property that will "support the continued revitalization of downtown, enhance the value of the current or new TIF district, and create a legacy that reorients the site’s history as an environmental problem to one that is sustainable; environmentally, financially and culturally."
