College Credits: Students Inducted Into Honor Societies

Area students are doing amazing things at colleges and universities across the United States.

LOCKPORT, IL — We're sharing the news of all the major higher education accomplishments of area students. Students from area towns like Lemont, Lockport and Romeoville are celebrating accomplishments throughout the semester, including academic and athletic achievements.

Brittney Leahy Inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi

Brittney Leahy of Romeoville, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the an all-discipline collegiate honor society. Leahy was initiated at Western Michigan University.

Leahy is among approximately 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.


Local Students Inducted as Delta Epsilon Sigma Members

Lewis University inducted 19 students into the Gamma Chi Chapter of Delta Epsilon Sigma on Nov. 22. Delta Epsilon Sigma is a national scholastic honor society for students, faculty and alumni of colleges and universities with a Catholic tradition.

It recognizes academic accomplishments, fosters scholarly activities, and encourages a sense of intellectual community among its members.

The following students were inducted:

Cassidy Fontaine-Warunek of Lockport
Natalie Lif of Lockport
Elizabeth Motola of Lemont

Undergraduate students must have completed at least 50 percent of the credit requirements for their baccalaureate degrees with a distinction of performance, which, if continued, would make them eligible for graduation cum laude. Lewis University junior and senior students must have at least a 3.5 GPA as well as received three DES faculty nominations in order to be nominated for membership to the Gamma Chi Chapter of Delta Epsilon Sigma.


Blair Pattison Inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi

Blair Pattison of Lockport, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, an all-discipline collegiate honor society. Pattison was initiated at University of West Georgia.

Pattison is among approximately 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Lockport student participates in Carthage College's annual Christmas Festival

Gabriella Tanguay of Lockport participated in Carthage College's annual Christmas Festival.

Yearly, Carthage College invites the community to celebrate the joy of the holiday season at the annual Carthage Christmas Festival, three performances of readings and music in the A. F. Siebert Chapel. These annual concerts are the college's Christmas gift to the community.
