Comedy Night Benefitting Camp for Foster Kids Returns

Lockport, Ill.: After the success, and fun, of the fundraiser in May, Well Versed Comedy, Gifts for Glory Ministries, and Thrive Church are bringing laughter for the whole family back the The ROXY Venue in Lockport on Saturday, November 6, with doors opening at 7:00 PM, and the show beginning at 7:30 PM.

The proceeds from the night will go to jumpstart the fundraising for Royal Family Kids Camp – Lockport, entering their third annual camp for children in the foster care system. Tickets for the comedy night are available through Eventbrite at rfkcomedynight.eventbrite.com.

The event is being put together by Dave Ebert, a member and Co-Children’s Pastor of Thrive Church in Lockport, who, along with wife and Co-Children’s Pastor Bobbie, will again be serving as a counselor at the camp next summer. The camp is for boys and girls in the foster care system to have a week of love, support, and encouragement, things often missing for children who tend to fall through cracks in the system.

“Serving the last two years was fun and challenging, but these kids are so amazing,” says Ebert. “When kids realize that it’s okay to just be a kid, to laugh, to be silly, and to be loved unconditionally, you can see their whole life change in the course of a few days at camp. That’s why I want to do this fundraiser; to raise the needed money to make next year’s camp special, but also to let people know of the need for the camp and to, I hope, inspire involvement in the way of giving time or money to make the camp perfect for our kids.”

The comedy will be ‘short-form improv,’ much like one might have seen on the hit show “Whose Line is it Anyway?” The comedy will be accessible for all ages. Being improv, everything will be made up off the top of the performers’ heads, and will also rely heavily on crowd feedback and suggestions.

“Why comedy? Well, in the last year-and-a-half, we as a society have been missing pure, free, joy…and if only for a couple of hours, we’re hoping to offer an escape,” explained Ebert. “We have members from my improv troupe Well Versed Comedy and other special guests to join us! It’s going to be an amazing night with amazing people for amazing kids! The audience will be blessed, we on stage will be blessed, and, most importantly, the kids at RFKC will be blessed. It’s a win-win-win!”

Tickets are available at rfkcomedynight.eventbrite.com, and are $20 for adults, kids 10 and up are $10, and under 10 will be free. There will be water and soft drinks available for sale at the bar, with the sale of drinks supporting the mission of The ROXY and Trinity Services.
