Comedy Night Fundraiser for Camp for Foster Kids is This Saturday

Lockport, Ill.: With so much uncertainty, anxiety, frustration, and aggravation these last 18 months, we all need a respite from the problems of the world. With this in mind, Well Versed Comedy invites you and your family to leave the troubles of the world outside and be free to laugh for an evening, all the while supporting a special camp for foster children at RFK Comedy Night: Thanks for Giving, this Saturday, Nov. 6, at the ROXY Theatre in Lockport.

Royal Family Kids Camp is a program that supports, encourages, and pours into children in the

foster care system, who all, statistically, are at risk to fall into lives of abuse, drugs, crime, and sex trafficking. The program includes a week-long camp where these kids, who are often overlooked or pigeon-holed, are treated like royalty. RFK Camps are funded by fundraising events like this comedy night, as well as personal donations raised by the counselors who serve at the camp.

The show will feature members of Well Versed Comedy, a faith-based improv comedy troupe based in the Chicagoland area, plus special guests. Well Versed and company will perform clean, family-friendly improv comedy based on audience suggestion. As is the nature of improv, this show will be entirely original because of the reliance on audience input.

“The wonderful thing about improvised comedy is that it is as much the audience’s show as it is ours,” said Dave Ebert, co-children’s pastor at Thrive Church, Lockport, Ill., and director of Well Versed Comedy. “We’re working without a net, and we’re seeking the audience’s help to keep our balance…or fall! But, in a fun way!”

Doors open at 7:00 pm, at the historic ROXY Theatre in downtown Lockport, Ill. The show will start at 7:30 pm, with an intermission. Soft drinks will be sold by the theatre to support the theatre and the work of Trinity Services, who runs the ROXY. Tickets are $20 per person, $10 for kids 10 and over, and free for kids under 10. All proceeds will go to Royal Family Kids – Lockport, IL.

The event is being put together by Dave Ebert, a member and Co-Children’s Pastor of Thrive Church in Lockport, who, along with wife and Co-Children’s Pastor Bobbie, will again be serving as a counselor at the camp next summer. The camp is for boys and girls in the foster care system to have a week of love, support, and encouragement, things often missing for children who tend to fall through cracks in the system.
