Construction Continues At Homer Township Library

The main parts of the project include a new community reading room, youth area expansion and an outdoor art garden with gazebo.

HOMER GLEN, IL — Construction continues at the Homer Township Public Library, as a community reading room addition, youth expansion and an outside art garden are in the works.

Library Director Sheree Kozel-La Ha said the project, which is self-funded by the library, should finish in early 2023, in the winter or early spring.

The project includes a community reading room west addition, which will include a media wall and seating.

Kozel-La Ha told Patch that this area could serve as a program room on occasion, and the newspaper collection will also be housed there.

The youth area will also be expanded, including a new program room with a moveable glass wall.

"The new space allows us to reorganize current space to support an educational computer area for youth, new book feature area, diner style seating, and more," Kozel-La Ha said.

The last big addition is an outside art garden with a gazebo area. The area will provide a social space, and showcase a Veteran's Fountain, sponsored by the Homer Glen Foundation, Kozel-La Ha said.

In addition to the three main expansions, the library will also add several study rooms, bathroom areas, updated carpeting in the youth services area and a new water bottle filling station.

Kozel-La Ha said construction is busy, although there have been some supply chain delays.

"For example, windows are delayed, and we await notification of their delivery. That is anticipated for winter now, but we hope sooner," she said.

A tentative grand opening event is planned for June 10, she added.
