D33C Recognizes Student Athletes, Certified Staff Contract Passes

The board discussed leaks at Butler School, recognized student athletes and approved a new intercom system.

HOMER GLEN, IL — At its Nov. 19 meeting, the Homer District 33C school board recognized several student athletes, approved new hires and addressed leaks at Butler School. The next meeting for the board will take place Dec. 17.

Boys Volleyball team recognized

The board recognized the Homer Junior High eighth grade boys volleyball team. According to the briefs, the team went undefeated in conference play 9-0 and went undefeated in the Des Plaines Valley Conference Tournament. Team members were: Josh Bluhm, Ray Dryier, Evan Dziadkowiec, Sam Eliacostas, Michael Keblusek, Ben McQuaid, Brayden Miller, Nate Nacino, Charlie Nelson, Hunter Phillips, Kyle Rada, Wade Welke and Coach Deborah Fleming.

Cross Country teams recognized

The boys cross country team took second place in the Des Plaines Valley Conference and the girls took first in the conference meet. The boys team then went on to earn fourth place at sectionals, while the girls took second. According to the briefs, students recognized by the board were: Alyssa Flood, Ava Kozak, Meghan Mack, Abbey Mack, Sarah Mack, Kaylin Klutcharch, Lexi Shea, Madison Strom, Mackenzie Wilburn, Rowan Tone, Bryce Flood, and coaches John Fencl, Della LoPresti and Kristen Bard.

New Hires

The board approved the hirings of Heather Ryan, paraprofessional at Butler School; Catherine Adamski, instructional aide at Schilling School; Nicole Lewis, lunchroom monitor at Young School; Abdo Ali, bus driver; and Marisa Lopez, seventh grade girls volleyball coach.

New Certified Staff Contract

Homer Council co-president Cathy Clayton said the new certified staff contract was passed with 67 percent of the vote. 91 percent of certified staff members voted.

Leaks at Butler School

According to board briefs, there have been several leaks at Butler School. Glen Wysong, director of buildings and grounds, said leaks have been in different rooms of the library during October. He is working with the roof contractor and general contractor to address all leaks.

Approvals

The board also approved: a contract with Konica Minolta OneRate program as the copier vendor; an Atlas IED intercom system will be installed at Hadley Middle School; and four after-school math support sponsors for the 2019-20 school year.
