HIGH PRIORITY: DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS AUGUST 26, 2019.

Hanson Material Quarry wants to expand their stone mining area. It sounds ridiculous that they are requesting destroying & relocating a section of globally rare ecosystem home to the Federally endangered species Hines Emerald Dragonfly as well as turtles such as Blanding Turtle, Spotted & other endangered or threatened species & plants etc. in Romeoville, Will County, IL.

This is an area of wet-mesic dolomite prairie, which is considered to be a globally rare ecosystem. According to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, a 1992 survey showed that about 140 acres of dolomite prairie remain in the State of Illinois. Hanson Material proposes to remove and transplant the soil and plants located within the wet-mesic dolomite prairie to a parcel they own on the east side of the Des Plaines River. The applicant is currently working on finalizing the HCP so that it can be evaluated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for mitigation for the species.”
