Diver Named Wrigley Fields Seeks State Championship for Lockport
The Lockport High School sophomore isn't bothered by his unique name.

LOCKPORT, IL - A Lockport High School diver seeking a state championship this weekend isn’t making the news for being a sophomore and the only Joliet-area diver still in the hunt for an IHSA diving title.
It’s because of his name.
Wrigley Fields took up diving less than two years ago but won his sectional this week, earning the right to compete as an individual at the state finals at New Trier High School on Friday and Saturday. His sectional score was 30th best in the state out of 48 who qualified.

That’s right. His name is Wrigley Fields. With an “s.”
The Herald-News tells the story of Fields’ die-hard Cubs fan parents and how the unique name doesn’t bother him a bit.

“I love it,” Fields told the newspaper. “My name is very accepted. Having people ask about it and comment on it never gets old. It’s unique. It gives me a lot of attention.”
But Fields offers more than just a unique name. He is quite the diver.
“Wrigley trains pretty hard,” Angie Arnold, his coach at Lockport, told the Herald-News. “He’s worked a lot on mental focus and fundamentals. We have done a lot of dry-land work and a lot of repetition so he can hit his dives at the meets.”
He’s a Cubs fan too, if you were wondering.
