Extreme Cold In Homer Glen-Lockport: What's Closed

Several libraries, refuse services and schools have announced closures due to the cold.

HOMER GLEN-LOCKPORT, IL — Schools, services and other organizations will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 30 due to the historic and dangerous cold moving into the area. Homer Township Public Library will be open until 4 p.m. Tuesday and will be closed all day on Wednesday, Jan. 30.

As of 7 p.m. Tuesday, schools who have announced closures for Wednesday, Jan. 30 are:

  • District 33C- Closed Wednesday AND Thursday
  • District 205 (Lockport Township High School) - Closed Wednesday AND Thursday
  • District 90 (Taft School District)
  • District 91 (Milne-Kelvin Grove School District)
  • District 92
  • St. Dennis School
  • Bobbie Noonan's Child Care (in Homer Glen and on Division Street in Lockport)

City offices in Lockport will have limited services and hours. The city said city offices are expected to be open from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday; however, some non-essential services may be unavailable during this time. The city plans to reopen all city offices on Thursday, Jan. 31, resuming regular business hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

In addition, Waste Management will not be in service on Wednesday, Jan. 30 and Thursday, Jan. 31 in Lockport. The refuse service will not service residential routes, and all service will be one day behind. Homewood Disposal (NuWay) in Homer Glen will also be closed Jan. 30. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday residential services will be delayed one day, the village said.
