Former Lockport Mayor Dead at 45

Former Lockport Mayor Tim Murphy died Monday, April 17, at Silver Cross Hospital.

LOCKPORT, IL - Former Lockport Mayor Tim Murphy passed away Monday, April 17. At 6:57 a.m., paramedics were called to Murphy's Lockport home, and he was transported to Silver Cross Hospital.

According to a release from the city, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Murphy served as the mayor of Lockport from 2004-2008, and the city said he was known for working in cooperation with residents to help transform downtown Lockport and the new I-355 corridor, which opened in 2007.

The city said the proposed large scale retail development at 159th street, just west of I-355, was visionary at the time it was proposed. Today, it is the economic engine that is driving growth for businesses east and west of I-355.

The city said it expresses its heartfelt condolences to the surviving family members of Murphy.
