GoFundMe Raises Money For 'Hardest Working Man In Homer Glen'

John LaRoy, known as the "hardest working man in Homer Glen" has been celebrated by his community recently.

HOMER GLEN, IL — A worker at the Homer Glen Jewel has been praised as "the hardest working man in Homer Glen" and after a post on Facebook, he has also been enjoying a bit of celebrity. John LaRoy, 55, is a lot captain and bagger at Jewel Osco in Homer Glen, where he has worked since 2013. He was retained by Jewel management when the store was changed from a Dominick's, according to his GoFundMe page.

LaRoy's GoFundMe was started by a Homer Glen resident who was inspired by his kindness to all people. The GoFundMe has been shared 981 times and $6,160 of its $1,000 goal has been raised. LaRoy lives in Palos Park with his father, whom he takes care of.

According to the GoFundMe, residents wanted to raise money for LaRoy because "[he] is a man that always greets you with a smile, wipes down a cart and has it waiting for you at the entrance, compliments the 'pretty ladies', helps you unload groceries into your car, and loves to converse about sports, your kiddos and the opportunity that Jewel has given him."

Jewel held a celebration for LaRoy on Jan. 27, and according to the GoFundMe, LaRoy was on top of the world. Money raised from the GoFundMe will go to LaRoy and his family.

"Many people in our community expressed interest in doing something special for John LaRoy," according to the GoFundMe. "His family said he loves going on vacation, so let's give him one from all of us! Maybe he will even get to see a Sox game on the road!"
