Thanksgiving flash mob at Goodings Grove
First graders surprise older students with turkey song
One never knows what to expect at dismissal time at Goodings Grove School.
One day, students may file out doing the twist. On another, they may skip out doing the mashed potato.
“I want them to go home happy,” said Principal Ann Christie.

On Friday (Nov 20), as students headed out for Thanksgiving break, the first graders were selected to surprise the older students by staging a Thanksgiving-themed flash mob.
“You are the chosen ones,” Christie told a group of first graders. “At dismissal time, you’re going to sing Mrs. Christie’s official Thanksgiving song.”

Students cheered and jumped at of their seats as Christie prepared to teach them her three-verse song: “With a wobble, wobble, wobble and a gobble, gobble, gobble, we are gonna have a turkey on Thanksgiving Day.”
“Do not practice at recess,” Christie told students. “This is top secret.”
At 3:15 p.m., as students lined up in the hallways for dismissal, Christie gave the cue to begin.
“OK first graders, hit it,” she said.
Without missing a beat, students jumped out of line and serenaded the school.
They’ll never look at Thanksgiving the same.
