HOMER GLEN, IL — A Palos Park man attacked a man in his home on Saturday night with a baseball bat, according to the Will County Sheriff's Office. Brian Holmberg, 47, was charged with two counts of home invasion, aggravated battery and criminal damage to property.

Deputies responded to the 14600 block of South Pebble Creek Court at 11:30 p.m. Saturday for a welfare check, police said. The person who called 911 was on the phone with someone residing at the Homer Glen home. He said he heard an argument on the other end of the phone, and it sounded like someone was being attacked, according to police.

When deputies got to the home, they spoke to a man who said Holmberg had attacked him with a baseball bat.

The man told police that he was on the couch talking on the phone when he heard the front door open, according to police. Holmberg entered the home and approached the man with an aluminum baseball bat, yelling at him about a domestic dispute, police said.

Holmberg swung the baseball bat, striking a picture frame and breaking it, according to the sheriff's office. Holmberg then struck the man on his left forearm and wrist, before the man was able to wrestle the bat away from him, police said.

After the attack, Holmberg fled the home, police said. A witness who was home at the time and awakened during the fight heard Holmberg shout a death threat, according to police.

Paramedics came to the scene and treated the man for his injuries.

Deputies found the broken picture frame, as well as Holmberg's baseball bat, sandals, and blood from his cut feet inside the home, police said. The sheriff's office contacted Palos Park police, who responded to Holmberg's home and took him into custody.

Holmberg was taken to the Will County Public Safety Complex for further questioning but refused to make any statements to detectives, police said. He was released Monday after bond was set at $150,000.
