Homer Glen Nonprofit Horse Farm Offers Summer Camps For Kids

The nonprofit, at 14437 Lemont Road, will run three sessions of camp, from June 15-18, July 13-16 and Aug. 3-6. ​

HOMER GLEN, IL — Homer Glen nonprofit, Holistic Riding Equestrian Therapy, will offer another year of its Horsing Around at HRET summer camps for kids ages 5-22.

The nonprofit, at 14437 Lemont Road, will run three sessions of camp, from June 15-18, July 13-16 and Aug. 3-6.

Kathy Sanders, who handles public relations for HRET, said the camp's curriculum changes every year. In the past, participants have learned "all things horse," including nutrition, care, breeds, markings and more, Sanders said.

"Participants will learn horsemanship skills and groundwork (such as leading their horse), and riding," she said. "We also round out the activities with crafts, games, and much more."

Campers will also explore the nonprofit's sensory trail and garden, and see plant and animal life around the farm.

"If the weather is particularly hot, we may have the participants paint the horses and then bathe them," Sanders said. "We also do scavenger hunts, create patterns in the arena for the campers, and have had a show for parents on the last day."
