Homer Junior High Students Earn Place In ILMEA Honor Band

Students from Homer Junior High auditioned virtually to participate in the Illinois Music Educators Association honor band.

HOMER GLEN, IL – Under the direction of band instructor Kenton Brace, students from Homer Junior High auditioned virtually to participate in the District 1 Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA) honor band.

The district said the following students represented Homer Jr. High at the virtual Master Class Festival on Nov. 14: Alex Borello (trombone), Owen Kuczero (clarinet), Calvin Kozor (alto saxophone), Ayden Locke (trombone), Logan Nusko (trombone), Christopher Ripley (trombone), and Kevin Smolinski (clarinet).

In a typical season, the selected musicians would gather to take part in the District Festivals with student musicians from around Illinois. According to the district, ILMEA instead created a high-quality virtual musical experience for those selected into the ensembles. Students participated in half-day digital master class events via Zoom with work with some of the top performance educators in Illinois and around the country.
