Homer Library's Newest 'Swap' Welcomes Plant Lovers Of All Levels
The library's first plant swap is planned for Sept. 9.
HOMER GLEN, IL — In September, Homer Township Public Library will hold its first plant swap, inviting plant-lovers to meet, and swap plants and ideas.
Adult Services Assistant Manager Becky Vallejo said the library's first "swap" was a craft swap.
"Years ago, I noticed we had extra craft supplies from our programs that could be used, but not enough materials to complete a program," she said. "That was when the first 'swap' idea came to me."

The craft swap was a huge success, so Vallejo began thinking of other events the library could hold, and the jewelry swap soon came to fruition.
"This swap was dear to me," Vallejo said. "Our swaps are free and all are welcome. Not everyone has the disposable income to buy jewelry and accessories, and this swap made it accessible for all."

Vallejo, who said she loves plants and meeting people who love plants, thought a plant swap would be an opportunity to bring "the plant loving community together."
"When you get plant people together they love to share ideas and information," she said. "I hope this will give fellow plant lovers a chance to meet each other, swap plants and swap ideas. No matter the shade of green thumb you have, all our welcome at the swap."
The library's first plant swap is planned for Sept. 9.
More information on the event will be coming soon, Vallejo said. The library will accept propagations and indoor plants for the event. Outdoor plants will not be accepted due to invasive jumping worms.
