Homer Township Library Awarded $60K Grant From IL Secretary Of State

HOMER GLEN, IL — The Homer Township Public Library has been awarded a $60,119 grant from Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias.

Library Director Sheree Kozel-La Ha said the grant assists the library in adding collections and resources to serve children, teens, adults, teachers, seniors, working professionals, home schoolers and more.

"We have expanded community areas coming with the addition of 5,000 square feet to fill, so the timing is wonderful," Kozel-La Ha said.

The per capita grant helps libraries meet Illinois Public Library Standards, which are adopted by the Illinois Library System. The Homer Township Library serves a community of 40,754, according to a news release.

The library sees about 500 visitors daily.

Material purchases for youth, teens and adults will include books, AV and electronic tools to encourage use of the library and its many resources, the Library said. Programming will include classes, preschool and youth programs, along with book discussion, teen and adult programming, and literacy support.

"Libraries offer free access to educational materials and classes to ensure that customers have the foundation and tools they need to be successful and literate citizens. We are proud to receive this grant," Kozel-La Ha said.
