The most pressing issues facing our (board, district, etc.) are _______, and this is what I intend to do about them.
The most pressing issues facing our library board is completion of our self-funded building project which addresses the community needs by providing more space, resources, materials and programs for all of our residents. Furthermore, with the other board members, I will be overseeing the library’s finances to ensure that your tax dollars are being managed with fiscal responsibility. It is vital that the library continues its “ever present” presence in the community.
What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
The other incumbents that I am running with are qualified and experienced. We are articulate and dedicated to the position; understanding our responsibilities as trustees. We embrace this role and commitment as crucial to the library’s future.
If you are a challenger, in what way has the current board or officeholder failed the community (or district or constituency)? Or what changes would you like to see?
N/A
Describe the other issues or ideas that define your campaign platform:
Access! I want to reiterate the library’s mission:
“The purpose of the Homer Township Public Library is to serve the informational, cultural, and educational needs of all Homer Township residents regardless of age, background, race or creeds.”
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
I have been a board member for 28 years. I am proud of my part in the development and changes in the library over those years. This is the second building project which I have been a part of; both self-funded because of conservative budgeting - no additional tax dollars sought or received.
Why should voters trust you?
I have lived in Homer Glen since 1988, my husband and I raised 4 children here and are blessed with eight grandchildren. I am a lover of the library and I will always be an advocate for it and the community.
If you win this position, what accomplishment would make your term in office as a success?
The Homer Township Public Library is the heart and soul of our community. It is a busy, vibrant, welcoming space that needs to be able to adjust to the ever-changing demands of this technological age by always addressing the diverse needs of our community. I am excited to see the completion of the building project and enjoy the new spaces that are created. I believe the art garden and gazebo will be a well-used and enjoyable addition. A meaningful success is seeing this to fruition and that the library mission endures!
What are your views on fiscal policy, government spending and the handling of taxpayer dollars in the office you are seeking?
It is my responsibility to be sure that the taxpayers’ dollars are being managed with fiscal responsibility. The library is approximately 1.8% of your tax bill. Because the director and other library managers have written and received many grants, they have supplemented those tax dollars and provided more materials, programs and projects.
Do you support the Illinois assault weapons ban, and would you support a local assault weapons ban in this community?
N/A
Do you think the current board has done enough to support racial equality? If not, what specifically should be done to do so?
I think we are on track with availability and access to materials.
Do you support the SAFE-T Act? Why or why not?
N/A
What are your thoughts on the crime rate in your community, and what more can be done to combat crime — especially violent crime — in town?
N/A
What is your view of the city's/village's approach to commercial and residential development?
N/A
When it comes to development, what are some key areas for improvement or additions you feel are most wanted by residents? What will need to be done to make this happen?
N/A
Is there any reason you would not serve your full term of office, other than those of health or family?
No
The best advice ever shared with me was:
If you can, get involved and make a difference. Do your best and take pride in your accomplishments; always have confidence and courage to follow through when difficult decisions or positions are necessary.
What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I am an active, happy, healthy adult who loves to read all types of books. I’m grateful that the library has a staff always there to assist me if I need it and interesting programs that keep me engaged!
