Lockport Apartment Building Uninhabitable After Fire: Fire Dept.

LOCKPORT, IL — An apartment building in Lockport is uninhabitable after a fire on Wednesday evening, the Lockport Township Fire Protection District said. Firefighters responded to a reported apartment fire in the 500 block of Diane Court at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The district said crews arrived to find a 2-story, 4-unit apartment building with a fire on the second floor in one of the middle units. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes, and damage was contained to the second floor of the two middle units, according to the district.

All occupants of the building were able to safely evacuate before the fire department arrived, the district said.

Due to the exterior structural damage, the entire building was left uninhabitable, the district said. A representative for the property owner arranged a place for all the occupants to stay and the Red Cross was contacted to assist with any additional needs, the district said.

The fire was upgraded to a full still which brought in additional resources and manpower from
Homer, Lemont, Northwest Homer, and Romeoville to assist at the scene while Bolingbrook, East
Joliet, Lemont, Plainfield, and Romeoville provided coverage in the Lockport stations.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Lockport Fire Investigators, the district said.
