Lockport Approves $327K Alternative Water Source Study
The study won't be finished until next year.
LOCKPORT, IL — At its Wednesday meeting, the Lockport City Council approved a $327,511 task order for an alternative water source study.
The study will be done by Engineering Enterprises, Inc., according to Council documents.
The study will evaluate "the pros, cons and costs of staying on deep/shallow water wells or partnering with a water agency to connect to Lake Michigan water."

The study will also look at long-term costs and rate impacts for staying on the current system or going to four potential Lake Michigan providers (GPWC, Illinois American Water, Bedford Park, or Oak Lawn).
"We have to look at all of our engineering, but then it's always wise to make sure we have alternatives if we ever need them," Mayor Steve Streit said.
