The contract is for the Division Street Wastewater Treatment Plant project.

LOCKPORT, IL — In its continuing plans for the Division Street Wastewater Treatment Plant, the City Council approved a contract with Baxter and Woodman, Inc., for phase 2 expansion design engineering services.

The contract, at a cost of $4,004,000, was approved at Wednesday's council meeting.

The project will replace and expand the Division Street plan, by removing and abandoning decaying portions and consolidating and expanding newer portions, according to council documents.

The plant last received major upgrades in 2008, and it needs to be upgraded for future capacity and future development.

Some parts of the plant have also passed their useful life, council documents state. The older portions of the plan haven't had major improvements in almost 40 years.

The second phase of improvements includes expansion of "the liquid and solids treatment processes and provisions to allow for ultimate site build out," council documents state.

This contract includes design, bidding and loan application assistance for phase 2. The project will extend several years, so expenses will be spread out, according to council documents.
