Lockport Approves $6.7 Million Property Tax Levy

If all estimates are true, a $250,000 house will pay $13.29 less in property taxes in 2020.

LOCKPORT, IL — At its Dec. 4 meeting, the Lockport city council approved the adoption of the 2019 property tax levy. The total tax levy for 2019 is $6,700,220 for the city of Lockport. The city council approved the tax levy with a vote of 6-1, with Alderwoman Catherine Perretta voting against. Alderwoman Christina Bergbower was absent.

In 2018, the city's tax rate was .8638, estimates show 2019's tax rate is .8201, board documents state.

According to board documents, the city estimates it will have its fifth year of an overall increase in Equalized Assessed Value. Due to the increase in assessed value, the city expects its overall tax rate will decrease.
