The plans call for a 4,000-square-foot building for a convenience store and fuel station at 151st and Archer.

LOCKPORT, IL — Plans for a gas station development at 151st Street and Archer Avenue are moving forward after the Lockport City Council approved a concept plan at its Wednesday meeting.

The concept plan was approved 6-1, with Alderperson Christina Bergbower voting against.

The property is 1.82 acres on the northeast corner of Archer and 151st.

The plans call for a 4,000-square-foot building for a convenience store and fuel station with fuel pumps for passenger vehicles on the northwest portion of the site. There is a truck drive with truck fuel pumps on the northeast portion of the property, according to council documents.

After the plan and zoning commission meeting, the applicant agreed to lower the canopy height at the fuel pumps, to make sure semi-trucks don't use the station for fueling.

City staff said the station's truck fuel pumps aren't for semi-trucks, but for smaller trucks, like landscaping trucks, that use diesel.

Trucks carrying fuel for the station will only exit west from the 151st Street access point, and a weight limit restriction will be increased only for the portion of 151st Street west of that entrance, council documents state.

Alderman Mark Lobes asked if the City will have to pay for the reinforcement of the 500 feet of road where the weight limit restriction would be increased.

City staff said the road is already constructed to handle extra weight, but signs would be posted to let drivers know about the weight limit.
