Lockport Approves Service For Soft Recyclable Collection

The City has approved an agreement with Simple Recycling, which functions on demand and picks up clothing, shoes, bedding and other items.

LOCKPORT, IL — At its Wednesday meeting, the Lockport City Council approved an agreement with Simple Recycling Illinois to collect soft recyclables from residents.

Last year, Waste Management's At Your Door service began in Lockport. That service involves the recycling of electronics, household poisonous items and paint, according to council documents.

There has now been a demand for more pick-up services, including for dry goods, household goods and miscellaneous items.

The City has approved an agreement with Simple Recycling, which functions on demand and picks up clothing, shoes, bedding and other items that Waste Management does not pick up with its electronics recycling program, council documents state.

85 to 95 percent of the items donated get reused or recycled, according to council documents.

The service can be provided with no cost, and the City actually would receive minor revenue, according to council documents. Much like the At Your Door program, residents would call Simple Recycling to schedule pick-up at their door.

Council documents state that the funds Lockport receives could be earmarked for a local charity.
