Lockport Helps Keep Businesses Afloat With Duck Art Installations

Visitors and residents will be able to spot 3-foot ducks placed around the city starting in late spring.

Visitors to the ducks will be able to view the art and also access a QR code which will give more information about the sponsor, the artist and the business where the duck is displayed.

LOCKPORT, IL — In a few months, you will be able to spot some interesting new sights around Lockport. 3-foot ducks will be sponsored by businesses, decorated by artists chosen by the Illinois State Museum, and displayed in front of Lockport small businesses.

The City's Summer Arts Series Committee has created the "Keep Our Small Businesses Afloat" program to help out Lockport's small businesses and create a fun activity for Lockport residents and visitors.

Visitors to the ducks will be able to view the art and also access a QR code which will give more information about the sponsor, the artist and the business where the duck is displayed.

Committee Chairperson Wendy Streit said the Summer Art Series Committee usually creates events to help bring the arts to the community, but everything got canceled last summer due to the pandemic.

The 3-foot ducks are made of fiberglass and are created by Legacy 3D, located in Bolingbrook.

"[We wanted] to come up with a way for the city to help our small businesses," Streit said. "We wanted to do something this year that would for sure be safe."

For every duck that is decorated, there's an artist that has been put back to work, Streit said.

The exact places for the ducks aren't yet known, but Streit said they will be located throughout the city.

Once they are installed, the ducks will be in place until Labor Day.
