Lockport Holds Open House For Planned Downtown Improvements

The city has started the planning process for streetscape improvements in the downtown area.

LOCKPORT, IL — The city of Lockport will hold an open house informational meeting about the proposed streetscape improvements in downtown Lockport. The meeting will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at city hall on July 9.

According to a Facebook post from the city, the city has started preliminary engineering and environmental studies along Ninth Street and State Street. Some proposed improvements include resurfacing Ninth Street and State Street, reconstructing and reconfiguring on-street parking, providing new ADA compliant sidewalks and crossings, and the installation of planters, trees and plantings.

The anticipated construction cost for this project is $2.5 million, with construction starting in 2021. Federal funding has been received for portions of the project.
