Lockport Launches Route 66 Public Art Initiative

23 benches will be displayed downtown Lockport from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

LOCKPORT, IL — The City of Lockport will officially launch its Route 66 benches with a ribbon cutting on May 23, at 11 a.m. at City Hall, 222 E. Ninth St.

The benches are a public art initiative celebrating the 100th anniversary of Route 66, according to the City.

From Memorial Day to Labor Day, 23 custom-painted, car-shaped fiberglass benches will be displayed throughout downtown Lockport. Each bench has been designed by a local artist and supported by program sponsors, the City said.
