Lockport Man Arrested After Hitting Friend With Handcuffs: Cops

A Lockport man was arrested in Joliet and taken to Will County Jail ​after he hit his friend in the head with a pair of handcuffs.

LOCKPORT, IL — A Lockport man was arrested in Joliet and taken to Will County Jail after he hit his friend in the head with a pair of handcuffs. Joliet Police said Jesus Simms, 25, of the 2100 block of Englewood Avenue in Lockport, was arrested at 12:22 a.m. Dec. 19 in the 300 block of South Water Street after an argument that dissolved into a fight.

Police said the victim told police there was an argument involving Simms and another friend. The victim tried to end the argument and step between Simms and the friend. According to police, the victim's back was facing Simms when he was struck from behind by a pair of handcuffs wrapped around Simms' hand. The victim had a cut on the back of his head, and Simms ran out of the house while police were being called, police said.

Simms was later located in the area, and a pair of handcuffs with blood on them were located in his back pants pocket, police said.

He was arrested for battery and transported to Will County Jail.

This was not Simms' first offense, and Patch reported in 2014 when Simms was involved in a lawsuit with another inmate at Will County Jail who threw urine at him. At that time, Simms was in jail on charges of aggravated domestic battery, resisting a police officer, driving without a license, leaving the scene of an accident, theft, burglary, and indirect criminal contempt.
