Lockport Man Publishes Mystery Series
Lockport resident David Scott Meyers published his second mystery novel earlier this year, and is currently working on his third.

LOCKPORT, IL — If you're looking for a mystery read, a local author may be your next pick. Lockport resident David Scott Meyers published his second mystery novel earlier this year, and is currently working on his third. Meyers owns Fin Scott Publishing and has published his novels on Amazon.
His trilogy includes "The Contractor" and "The Sheriff," both of which are available on Amazon. The third book is called "The Pastor."
Meyers said his first venture into writing wasn't intentional. He took a journalism class in high school, but didn't have "the writing bug yet."

"It wasn't until sophomore year of college that I even attempted to write anything. Growing up, I loved watching movies. Out of boredom one day, I thought, 'I could probably write a decent screenplay...'," he told Patch. "So, I started it, sitting in a dormitory lounge. I had a lot of the groundwork laid out and got a good couple of scenes down, but it needed something. I put the pen down, with the intentions of picking it back up, but I never finished that screenplay. I think that's when the small flame started, though."
Eventually, Meyers wrote another screenplay which ended up being developed into a film, "The Icing." The film was released on independent DVD several years later.

His current work, "The Fellowship Series," began when his older brother came to him with notes for a screenplay idea.
"The notes were good, but I didn't want to waste the ideas on a movie. I thought, 'I could make a book out of this'," he said. He started writing "The Contractor," in 2009.
Meyers said the series follows Elias Morgan who lives on his family's farm in Tennessee. The farm has been in his family for more than 200 years, and he wants to try to preserve the old barn. In town one day, he stumbles across a contractor, and he hires him to help with stabilizing the old structure. Late one night, the contractor disappears, and it takes the cunning of one man to discover the truth.
Meyers began writing his second novel in the series, "The Sheriff," before his first book was even finished.
"It actually helped me to end 'The Contractor' in such a way that I could transition into the next one," he told Patch.
He self-published his first novel in 2018, followed by the second in the series in 2020. Meyers said the final installment in his series is in the editing stage.
Meyers called his writing "a family affair." His wife, Samantha, is his editor and illustrator, his daughter did illustrations for his books, and he is also working on a book of short stories with his 15-year-old son as well as writing stories about his 8-year-old daughter.
