Lockport Moves Forward With Quiet Zone Project At Old Ninth Street

LOCKPORT, IL — At its Wednesday meeting, the Lockport City Council awarded the Old Ninth Street at BNSF railroad quiet zone project to Gallagher Asphalt Corporation.
The project cost is $358,758.92.
City Administrator Ben Benson said this project is mostly "civil work" outside the right-of-way of BNSF.

"Once this work is approved, and we get it installed, we then contact BNSF for the final signage approval...and then [the quiet zone] is implemented," Benson said.
According to council documents, the project consists of quiet zone roadway improvements along Old Ninth Street from Daviess Avenue to Ames Street, and Daviess from Old Ninth Street to West Eighth Street.

The City had budgeted $350,000 for the project, and the low bidder was Gallagher Asphalt Corporation, council documents state.
