Lockport Receives Monument Route 66 Sign

The Route 66 monument signage celebrates the 100th anniversary of Illinois Route 66.

LOCKPORT, IL — To celebrate Lockport's role in the history of Route 66, the City has received a giant Route 66 monument sign, which is placed on State Street near the Metra lot.

According to the city, the sign was purchased by the Heritage Corridor Convention and Visitors Bureau, using state grant funding. The Route 66 monument signage celebrates the 100th anniversary of Illinois Route 66.

According to the city, the signs were distributed along the historic road and interpretive corridor.

"To commemorate Lockport’s role in the Route 66 centennial, and because Lockport is part of the Route 66 interpretative corridor to the Joliet Prison, the City has received one of the awesome monuments," the city said.
