Lockport Senior Selected as Lucia Queen for 2018 Lucia Pageant

The 23rd Annual Lucia Breakfast and Pageant will feature Lockport Township High School Senior, Rachel Hampton as the Lucia Queen of Lights.

Sankta Lucia is a long held tradition in Sweden, recognizing the return of light after the dark winter. Hope Covenant Church has been carrying on this tradition for over 20 years with their 23rd Annual Swedish Christmas Breakfast to be held this year on Saturday, December 8th at 10:00am at Hope Covenant Church, 14401 West Avenue, Orland Park, IL.

Traditional Swedish foods will be served such as, cardamom coffee cake, sweet rye, hard-tak, bond-ost cheese, pickled herring, rice pudding and lingonberry, and potato sausage. The pageant will include the Lucia Queen wearing the traditional crown of candles, along with her attendants, who will also serve breakfast.

Miss Rachel Hampton, has been chosen Lucia Queen for this year’s pageant. Rachel is the daughter of Charlotte and Boyd Hampton of Lockport, and the granddaughter of James and Edith Ware of Lockport. Rachel is a senior at Lockport Township High School and a member of the Drama Club and Choir.

A very special program is also planned featuring a special musical guest, as well as Christmas carols with pianist Beverly Bovard. The Swedish Market will also be open to purchase traditional Swedish foods, baked goods, and Swedish crafts.
